Mumbai, Legislative House | July 15:
The report of the Cooperative Housing Institute Self-Development – Group Self-Development Study Group was presented to the state government today, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stating that the findings will help accelerate numerous stalled housing projects across Maharashtra, especially during the upcoming winter session.
The report, submitted ahead of schedule, proposes structured guidelines for self-development housing schemes and recommends forwarding the study group’s accepted decisions to the Housing, Cooperation, and Urban Development Departments. These decisions will be moved to the Cabinet for approval and implementation.
The study highlighted that due to the absence of developers, local residents in self-developed cooperative societies were forced to settle for smaller living spaces ranging from 12 to 16 square feet. The report encourages self-development of small housing projects, with financial support from Mumbai Bank, aiming to fulfill citizens’ aspirations of owning more spacious homes—even for those who have migrated out of Mumbai.
Legislative Assembly Speaker Adv. Rahul Narwekar, Legislative Council Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde, Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil, Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister of State Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar, MLA Pravin Darekar, and members of the study group were present at the event.
