Western Railway Suspends Platform Ticket Sales at 4 Stations to Control Festive Rush

Mumbai, October 15: To prevent overcrowding during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals, the Western Railway (WR) has announced a temporary suspension of platform ticket sales at four key stations.

According to an official statement, the restriction will be in effect from October 15 to 31 at Bandra Terminus (Mumbai) and Vapi, Udhna, and Surat stations (Gujarat).

The decision follows safety concerns raised after last year’s festive rush, when nine passengers were injured in a stampede at Bandra railway station.

WR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Vineet Abhishek, said the move is aimed at ensuring smooth passenger movement and maintaining safety amid the anticipated surge in travelers.

Exemptions will be made in genuine cases, including individuals assisting senior citizens, women, differently-abled passengers (Divyangjan), or those requiring special care.

The Western Railway has urged passengers to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with railway authorities to help maintain safety and order during the festive season.
