“We Are Balochistani, Not Pakistani”: Baloch Leader Rejects Pakistan’s Claim on Balochistan

Baloch activist Mir Yar Baloch reignited the debate over Balochistan’s status on Wednesday, asserting that the region was never part of Pakistan. Citing decades of “air bombings, enforced disappearances, and genocide,” Mir urged Indian media and influencers to refrain from referring to Balochs as “Pakistan’s own people.”

In a strongly worded statement, he reminded audiences of Balochistan’s historical claim to independence:
“We declared our independence on August 11, 1947—before the British left the subcontinent. Balochistan was not part of Pakistan at that time, and it isn’t now.”

Mir further appealed to India’s media and intellectual community:
“Dear Indian patriotic media, YouTubers, and defenders of Bharat—please stop calling Balochs ‘Pakistan’s own people.’ We are Balochistani, not Pakistani. Pakistan’s own people are the Punjabis, who have never suffered aerial bombings, abductions, or state-sponsored killings like we have.”

As India and Pakistan engage in heightened military tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, Mir claimed the Baloch people stand firmly with India.
“In the face of China’s backing of Pakistan, we, the people of the Democratic Republic of Balochistan, extend our full support to the people of Bharat,” he posted. “Prime Minister @narendramodi, you are not alone. Sixty million Baloch patriots stand with you.”

Mir’s comments follow India’s recent Operation Sindoor, a coordinated strike targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Prime Minister Modi had stated that over 100 terrorists were eliminated during the mission.

Balochistan remains one of the most volatile and oppressed regions in South Asia. The province has been marred by severe human rights violations, with reports of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and suppression of dissent. While Pakistani forces and insurgent groups exchange blame, it is the civilian population that continues to suffer—often in silence and outside the spotlight of global media attention.
