After making her mark in Punjabi cinema and web series like Modern Love Mumbai, Wamiqa Gabbi landed her biggest break as one of the leads in Baby John, a Bollywood action drama presented by Atlee and directed by Kalees. The film stars Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh, and marks Atlee’s second venture into Hindi cinema after the success of Jawan. For the film’s muhurat ceremony, Atlee invited Jawan lead Shah Rukh Khan—giving Wamiqa her first official opportunity to meet the superstar. But the interaction didn’t go quite as she had imagined.
In a recent interview with Mashable India, Wamiqa shared the quirky details of that first meeting. “My conversation with him was really weird,” she said. “We were at the muhurat of Baby John and Shah Rukh Khan visited the set for about 15 minutes. My brother Hardik was with me. Everyone was starstruck and crowding around him. Hardik and I were standing toward the back, joking around and imagining what I might say if he came to talk to me.”
Laughing, she added, “I asked Hardik, ‘If he comes to speak to me while leaving, what should I say?’ and he jokingly said, ‘Nas kaat de’ (cut your wrist). We were just goofing around.”
To her surprise, the actor did approach her before leaving. “He said, ‘Okay, bye,’ and I replied, ‘It was so nice meeting you, sir. My brother suggested I cut my wrist, but obviously I wouldn’t do that!’” Wamiqa recalled, cringing at the memory. “Everyone went silent, and SRK simply left. Right after that, someone from the production came running up to me asking, ‘Did you just talk about cutting your wrist?’ My brother was shocked too. I genuinely thought Shah Rukh would get the joke—but clearly, he didn’t.”
Also part of the interview was actor Rajkummar Rao, who shared a more pleasant memory of his last encounter with Shah Rukh Khan. “I met him at Farah Khan’s birthday party,” he said. “We had a long chat—talked about his film King, Aryan Khan’s upcoming show, and he even told me he liked Stree 2.”
