Vasai-Virar Introduces Meter-Based Rickshaw and Taxi Fares From November 15

Share:

Vasai-Virar commuters will soon benefit from a more transparent fare system as rickshaw and taxi services in the region will shift to meter-based fares starting November 15. The initiative, launched by Maharashtra State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, aims to ease growing traffic congestion and address long-standing fare disputes.

According to the revised fare structure issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO), the minimum fare has been set at ₹26 for the first 1.5 km, while midnight fares will start at ₹32. For a 2 km ride, passengers will pay ₹34 during the day and ₹43 at night. These rates bring Vasai-Virar in line with Mumbai’s existing fare system.

The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting at Mantralaya attended by MLA Sneha Dubey, MSRTC Managing Director Dr. Madhav Kusekar, and other key officials.

In a further boost to connectivity, plans are also underway to launch long-distance bus services from Vasai-Virar to Thane and Kalyan, offering commuters expanded and more convenient travel options.
