In a disturbing incident in Vasai’s Nalasopara East, two traffic policemen were brutally assaulted by a father-son duo and their accomplice after being stopped for traffic violations. The shocking episode took place outside Sitara Bakery on July 15 and has since gone viral on social media, sparking public outrage.
According to police, the traffic officers had stopped a youth, Parth Narkar, for riding a two-wheeler without a helmet and valid documents. Instead of complying, Parth called his father, Mangesh Narkar, a BMC clean-up marshal. Within minutes, both father and son, along with a friend, arrived at the spot and launched a violent attack on the officers—identified as Constables Hanumant Sangle and Shesh Narayan Athare.
In the widely circulated video, the accused can be seen punching, kicking, and dragging the officers on the road in full public view. One constable’s body camera was reportedly damaged in the attack.
All three accused—Parth, Mangesh, and their friend—were arrested by Tulinj Police and produced before a local court. They have been booked under serious charges, including assault on a public servant, obstructing official duty, and damaging government property.
The assaulted officers received medical treatment for minor injuries. The incident has raised alarm over the increasing number of attacks on traffic police in the region, coming just days after another similar altercation inside Tulinj police station.
Authorities have assured strict action and called for public cooperation in ensuring the safety of law enforcement personnel on duty.
