Vasai Couple Arrested for Assaulting and Filming Relative in Viral Video After Bail Rejected by Bombay High Court

After more than a month on the run, a Vasai-based couple accused of stripping and violently assaulting their 43 year old relative from Kandivli and recording the disturbing act, have finally been arrested by Waliv police. The assault, which took place on April 5, was captured on video and later circulated among family members, sparking outrage. The victim’s husband filed an FIR on April 9.

The couple had been evading arrest, first seeking anticipatory bail from a sessions court, and then appealing to the Bombay High Court. Both applications were rejected. According to police sources, the High Court took note of the gravity of the offence and reviewed photographic evidence submitted by the prosecution. The visuals showed the woman accused actively participating in the assault. The court ruled that granting bail could result in potential tampering with evidence or intimidation of the complainant and witnesses.

Calling the assault “inhuman,” the victim’s husband said, “This wasn’t an act of a human being,it was barbaric. Even while on the run, they kept pressuring us through relatives to withdraw the case.”

A family member criticized the delay in action, saying, “Despite the police claiming to be clueless about their location, the accused were somehow able to send compromise messages through mutual contacts.”

Legal Opinion
Advocate Abhijit Mandre, representing the survivor, described the incident as a grave violation of human dignity. “Stripping a woman, filming the violence, and then circulating the video—this crosses every boundary of civilized conduct. They must face the harshest legal consequences,” he said.

Police Statement
Senior Inspector Dilip Ghuge of Waliv Police Station confirmed the arrest and said the accused would be presented in court on Tuesday. He declined to reveal further details, citing an ongoing investigation.
