Mumbai :- Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has backed the demand to construct a grand memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. Thackeray stated that the state government should consider the proposal seriously, as Raj Bhavan holds historical significance linked to the Maratha warrior king.
The demand, initially raised by activist Udayanraj, has gained traction among Maratha groups and political leaders. Thackeray emphasized that building the memorial at Raj Bhavan would be a fitting tribute to Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy.
Raj Bhavan, currently the official residence of Maharashtra’s Governor, is believed to be the site where Shivaji Maharaj’s fort once stood. The proposal has sparked debates, with some supporting the idea as a mark of respect, while others question the feasibility of relocating the Governor’s residence.
The Maharashtra government has yet to respond officially, but the demand has reignited discussions on preserving Maratha heritage in the state.
