Uddhav Thackeray Explores Alliance with Raj Thackeray Ahead of Maharashtra Civic Polls

Mumbai, June 10, 2025 :-

As Maharashtra gears up for key civic elections—most notably the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls—Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray is reportedly considering a political alliance with his cousin Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a move that could reshape the political landscape in the state.

Sources within the Shiv Sena (UBT) indicate that Uddhav has begun discussions with senior party leaders to gauge support for a possible tie-up. The consultations come amid a backdrop of indirect public statements and political signaling between the two camps over the past few weeks.

While Uddhav recently said, “Whatever the people of Maharashtra want will happen,” leaders from the MNS have maintained that any formal talks would require a clear and serious proposal. MNS spokesperson Sandeep Deshpande noted that Raj Thackeray is open to dialogue and would be willing to “take 100 steps forward” if Uddhav initiates the process.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut hinted that informal communication between the Thackeray cousins may already be in motion, though no official talks have been confirmed.

The Congress party, which currently partners with Uddhav’s faction, has reacted cautiously. While not opposing the idea, Congress leaders have emphasized the importance of maintaining a united front against the BJP, especially in urban centers where the stakes are high.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, have downplayed the possible alliance, calling it a personal matter within the Thackeray family and unlikely to impact the larger political picture.

If an agreement is reached, it would mark a significant reconciliation between Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, who parted ways politically nearly two decades ago. Political observers suggest that the outcome of internal deliberations over the coming days will determine whether this tentative outreach translates into a formal partnership ahead of the polls.
