Mumbai :- In a shocking incident in Dombivli, Maharashtra, two women were allegedly assaulted for using the English phrase “Excuse me” instead of its Marathi equivalent. The altercation occurred in a public space where the victims reportedly used the English term, triggering an aggressive response from a group of individuals who demanded they speak in Marathi.
According to the victims, the group not only verbally abused them but also physically attacked them, insisting that Marathi should be used in public conversations within the state. The incident has sparked outrage on social media and raised serious concerns about growing linguistic intolerance.
Local authorities have registered a case and an investigation is underway. Civic groups and rights activists have condemned the act, calling for swift justice and protection of linguistic freedom in a diverse country like India.
