Two men lost their lives after their two-wheeler rammed into barricades on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway on Saturday night. The rider has been booked for negligent driving posthumously.

The deceased were identified as Ashok Dattu Handva (25) and Paras Sunil Vartha (18), both residents of Khandiwade in Palghar. They were reportedly on their way to Vasai to attend a wedding when the accident occurred around 8:40 p.m. on the southbound carriageway.

According to Mandvi police, Handva was allegedly speeding when he lost control of the motorcycle, crashing into roadside barricades. Both he and Vartha sustained severe injuries. Alerted by passersby, police arrived at the scene and rushed the victims to Sanjivani Hospital in Virar, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

“We have booked Handva under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (death due to negligence) for causing the death of his friend and himself,” said a police officer.

Police added that they are awaiting an RTO report to determine if a mechanical fault contributed to the accident. If no such issue is found, a closure report will be filed.
