Mumbai : Mumbai is gearing up for a major upgrade in its transport network as tunnelling work for the Orange Gate–Marine Drive underpass is set to begin next month. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is leading the development of this 9.23-km corridor, designed to ease congestion and improve connectivity across South Mumbai.

The project includes 6.51 km of twin-tube tunnels, each featuring two traffic lanes, an emergency lane, and dedicated pedestrian walkways. Once completed, the corridor will provide a smooth and direct connection from Orange Gate to the Coastal Road at Marine Drive, tackling heavy traffic issues in the area.

Special safety precautions are being taken due to the presence of heritage structures and densely populated zones along the route, ensuring minimal disturbance to residents. The upcoming development is expected to significantly cut travel time and enhance the overall transit experience for commuters.
