Mumbai : Bhojpuri superstar and BJP MP Dinesh Lal Yadav, popularly known as Nirahua, has hit out at what he calls the “dirty politics” of language imposition in Maharashtra. Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the forced use of Marathi, Nirahua issued an open challenge to political parties, daring them to remove him from the state for not speaking the language.
Speaking during the promotion of his upcoming film Hamar Naam Ba Kanhaiya, Nirahua said, “India is a land of diverse languages and cultures. No one should be targeted for not knowing one specific language.”
In a bold statement, he added, “Kisi mein dum hai toh humko Maharashtra se nikaal ke dikhaye. I don’t speak Marathi. I live here — try and throw me out.”
While calling Marathi a beautiful language, he emphasized that learning any language should be a choice, not a compulsion. “If someone wants to learn five languages, that’s great. But if they can’t, they should not be targeted for it,” he said.
Nirahua’s remarks come in the wake of a recent incident in Mira Road, where MNS workers allegedly assaulted a restaurant owner for not speaking in Marathi. The incident drew criticism from various public figures, including actor Ranvir Shorey and investor Sushil Kedia, the latter of whose office was vandalized following his criticism of MNS chief Raj Thackeray.
“This kind of dirty politics should stop. It is harmful to our unity and goes against the spirit of our Constitution,” Nirahua concluded.
