Mumbai, June 1, 2025:- A leisure evening turned tragic for a group of friends at Juhu Jetty in Mumbai, when 20-year-old Anil Arjun Rajput accidentally fell into the sea and drowned while taking photographs. The incident occurred around 8 PM on Saturday near Juhu Koliwada, a popular but often hazardous spot along the city’s coastline.

According to preliminary information from the BMC’s Disaster Management Cell, Anil was at the jetty with friends, casually taking pictures when he lost his balance and fell into the rough waters. Witnesses say he was photographing a friend when he slipped, with no protective barriers in place to prevent such accidents.

Onlookers raised an alarm, and local fishermen reportedly attempted a quick rescue. Authorities, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade and local police, were alerted immediately. He was retrieved from the water after several minutes and rushed to Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Anil was a resident of Mumbai and had reportedly come to Juhu to relax after work. His friends, devastated by the incident, are cooperating with police for further inquiries.

The Mumbai Police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area. Initial investigation suggests no foul play.

The incident has once again raised concerns about safety infrastructure at public waterfront spots in Mumbai, many of which lack adequate lighting, guardrails, and warning signage. Juhu Jetty, frequented by locals and tourists alike, has seen similar incidents in the past, prompting calls for stronger safety measures.

Authorities have appealed to the public to exercise caution while visiting coastal areas, especially during high tide or after dark. The civic body is also expected to revisit existing safety protocols at open jetty points across the city.

Anil’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and his family has been informed.
