Mumbai : The RCF Police have arrested a tanker driver, identified as Vinod Pandit, for allegedly damaging a petrol and diesel supply pipeline in Chembur while attempting to steal fuel.
According to police, Pandit used several tools to break into the BPCL pipeline. The intrusion detection alarm rang twice—first on November 13 at around 9:30 pm, and again on November 14—alerting company officials both times.
BPCL staff inspected the site after the second alarm and discovered that the ground beneath the pipeline had been dug up. They recovered an iron coupling, bolt, spade, hammer, cutter, hacksaw blades and other implements believed to have been used in the attempted theft. An FIR was registered soon after.
Although there were no CCTV cameras in the vicinity, police tracked down the accused through witness statements and technical analysis. The incident occurred near the Pepsi company gate in Chembur.
Pandit has been taken into custody as the investigation continues.
