The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell has apprehended gangster Suresh Pujari for his role in a 2020 extortion case involving threats against a hotelier. Though already jailed in Thane for separate offenses, he was formally taken into custody for this pending case. Investigations show Pujari demanded ₹3 lakh but agreed to ₹50,000 after negotiations. After five years on the run in this case, his arrest strengthens efforts to dismantle extortion networks in Mumbai. Authorities are now investigating his broader criminal connections.
