Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party–Sharad Pawar (NCP-SP) MP Supriya Sule has written to Deputy Chief Minister and State Excise Minister Ajit Pawar, demanding the closure of the Living Liquidz liquor store in South Mumbai’s Breach Candy.
Sule argued that the shop, located near two schools and a hospital, has become a source of public nuisance, with locals reporting instances of people drinking illegally outside, quarrels, and frequent congestion caused by parked vehicles. She also raised concerns over women’s safety in the area, noting that more than 200 residents had signed a petition against the outlet.
While police confirmed that security personnel had been deployed to maintain order during peak hours, Sule expressed disappointment that no concrete action had been taken.
The store’s owner, Manish Pardasani, defended the outlet, stating that it operates within the law, employs private security guards, and provides a safe walk-in experience. He attributed the opposition to a change in the housing society’s management committee, which had earlier granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the shop.
The State Excise Department has not yet issued an official response.
