Supreme Court Petition Seeks Ban on MNS Over Alleged Violence Against Hindi Speakers

A petition filed in the Supreme Court has demanded a ban on the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), accusing the political party of inciting violence against Hindi-speaking migrants in Maharashtra. The plea cites multiple instances of alleged attacks and intimidation by MNS workers targeting non-Marathi residents.

The petition, filed by a social activist, claims that the MNS has repeatedly violated constitutional rights by enforcing linguistic discrimination and creating an atmosphere of fear. It references past incidents, including assaults on North Indian workers, vandalism of businesses employing Hindi speakers, and inflammatory speeches by party leaders.

The Supreme Court is expected to examine the plea, which seeks immediate action against the party under laws related to unlawful activities. The petitioner argues that the MNS’s actions threaten national unity and violate the fundamental right to equality.

MNS leader Raj Thackeray has previously defended his party’s stance, stating that their agitation is aimed at protecting Marathi interests and job opportunities for locals. However, critics accuse the party of xenophobic politics.

The Maharashtra government has yet to respond officially, but the case could reignite debates over linguistic polarization and migrant rights in the state. Legal experts suggest the court may direct law enforcement agencies to investigate the allegations before deciding on a ban.
