Mumbai : In a major development, the Supreme Court has granted bail to former MLA and underworld don Arun Gawli in the 2007 murder case of Shiv Sena corporator Kamalakar Jamsandekar.
Jamsandekar was shot dead in broad daylight at his residence in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. Gawli had been convicted in the case and was serving a life sentence. However, after spending nearly 18 years in prison, the apex court ordered his release on bail.
The bail was granted by a bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and Kotishwar Singh, who noted Gawli’s prolonged incarceration. His case was argued by advocates Hadkar and Mir Nagman Ali.
The order paves the way for Gawli’s release, marking a significant relief for the former gangster-turned-politician.
