New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its order on a plea seeking a stay on its August 11 directive for the permanent relocation of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR. A three-judge bench led by Justice Vikram Nath blamed the “inaction” of local authorities for the worsening stray dog crisis, citing a surge in dog bite incidents.
The plea, filed by the Conference for Human Rights (India), alleges non-compliance with the Animal Birth Control (Dog) Rules, 2001, which mandate sterilisation and vaccination. It also referred to a May 2024 SC order that transferred similar cases to high courts, while urging urgent intervention in the matter.
