Mumbai, June 16, 2025 — Tata Starbucks has clarified that it has no association whatsoever with Sunil Patil, better known as “Dolly Chaiwala,” following a viral meme that falsely suggested a collaboration between the global coffee giant and the flamboyant tea vendor from Nagpur. The confusion originated from a digitally altered image shared online as part of an April Fool’s joke by influencer Aditya Oza, which portrayed Dolly Chaiwala as a Starbucks ambassador.
The meme quickly gained traction on social media, triggering widespread belief that the eccentric tea-seller—known for his stylized serving flair—had joined hands with the premium coffee brand in a quirky marketing move.
Putting speculation to rest, Tata Starbucks issued an official statement on Monday, asserting: “Tata Starbucks does not have any official brand ambassadors in India. Specifically, we have not entered into any collaboration with Dolly Chaiwala.” The company further clarified that the viral content was created by a third party and misconstrued by the public as an official partnership, reiterating its commitment to maintaining accuracy and authenticity in all communications.
Dolly Chaiwala, who has become a social media sensation for his theatrics and trademark sunglasses, catapulted to fame after serving tea to Bill Gates during the Microsoft founder’s India visit in early 2024. His popularity surged with appearances on national television and reality shows, including Bigg Boss 18.
Despite his meteoric rise, Dolly remains an independent street vendor. The Starbucks rumor, while entertaining to many, highlights the ease with which misinformation can spread in the digital age, especially when humor and virality intersect with brand narratives.
