Mumbai: Film producer and social worker Smita Thackeray, founder and chairperson of Mukkti Foundation, has launched free “Art and Drama Workshops” at Taraben Master School, Santacruz, in collaboration with Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares.
The initiative will offer professional training in dance, drama, and acting to children from slum communities, aiming to boost their confidence, communication, creativity, and leadership skills. Selection will be school-based, with a focus on nurturing hidden talent.
The announcement coincided with the Foundation’s ongoing food drive, “Aao Bhookh Mitayein” (Let’s End Hunger). Highlighting the holistic approach, Thackeray said, “Every child deserves not just food, but also a platform to showcase their creativity. Mukkti Cultural Hub is here to nurture hidden talent and give underprivileged children equal opportunities.”
The workshops, supported by Bollywood celebrities over the years, mark another step in Mukkti Foundation’s 26-year journey of social impact in education, healthcare, and women’s safety. With this dual initiative of nourishment and cultural empowerment, Smita Thackeray continues her mission to empower underprivileged children with both hope and opportunity.
