“Situation in India Also Not Good, Everyone Should Be Cautious”: Sanjay Raut Warns Amid Nepal Protests

Mumbai : As Nepal continues to witness massive Gen Z-led protests against corruption and authoritarianism, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Wednesday cautioned that similar unrest could erupt in India if issues like unemployment, nepotism, and corruption remain unaddressed.

Raut said the Narendra Modi-led government is “surviving because of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology of non-violence,” adding that the anger visible in Nepal could easily spread across borders.

“If this spark comes to India, the consequences will be severe. India has survived till today because of Gandhi. Even today, people believe in him. No matter how much you abuse Gandhi, Modi ji, your government is surviving because of Gandhi’s ideology,” Raut told ANI.

He further alleged that the free ration scheme for 80 crore Indians reflects widespread poverty, while government failures in foreign policy have distanced Nepal, once a close ally. “When Nepal needed India, the elder brother did not stand with them. This is the failure of our foreign policy,” Raut remarked.

Raut also pointed to rising unemployment, corruption, and the growing frustration among Indian youth, warning that the situation could turn volatile.

His remarks come as Nepal remains under curfew, with at least 19 dead and over 500 injured in clashes between protesters and security forces since September 8. Demonstrators are demanding transparency in governance, an end to nepotism, and the revocation of the social media ban imposed by the government.

The Nepalese Army has arrested 27 individuals for looting and arson and confirmed that dozens of police officers and civilians are receiving treatment after violent clashes.
