In a strong move toward environmental responsibility, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and Shree Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple have joined forces to launch an anti-plastic campaign aimed at promoting cloth bags among devotees and vendors. The initiative was unveiled during a special event held on Saturday evening at the revered temple in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi area.

Maharashtra’s Environment Minister Pankaja Munde was present to lead the campaign and spoke passionately about the damaging effects of plastic pollution. She urged people to make a conscious switch to eco-friendly alternatives like cloth bags, emphasizing the importance of such choices in protecting the environment.

The Siddhivinayak Temple, which draws thousands of visitors daily, had recently implemented security-based restrictions that included a ban on coconuts, garlands, and food offerings. As part of its continued efforts to enhance safety and sustainability, the temple has now completely prohibited the use of plastic bags within its premises.

Temple treasurer and trustee Acharya Pawan Tripathi voiced strong support for the initiative, stating that the trust would ensure its effective implementation. He also praised the MPCB for its leadership in environmental awareness and committed to playing an active role in the cause.

Several dignitaries were in attendance, including temple trustees Gopal Dalvi and Mahesh Mudaliar, executive officer Veena Patil, and deputy executive officer Dr. Sandeep Rathod, all united in their message of building a cleaner, greener future for Mumbai.
