Kolkata: In a shocking display of recklessness, a woman was caught on camera throwing a large stone at a moving train from the opposite track at Sealdah South. The disturbing act, which quickly went viral on social media, has raised serious concerns about passenger safety and the growing menace of such irresponsible behavior near railway tracks.
Officials from the Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division condemned the act, calling it “life-threatening and completely unacceptable.” They emphasized that such actions not only endanger passengers and railway staff but can also lead to major accidents, injuries, or even derailments.
“Railways are the lifeline of our nation. Acts like these are criminal offences and will invite strict legal action,” stated the Ministry of Railways in an official release, urging citizens to act responsibly and report any such incidents immediately.
Authorities reminded the public that vandalism or endangering trains is punishable under the law and that ensuring railway safety is a shared responsibility.
The RPF (Railway Protection Force) has reportedly initiated an investigation into the matter and is working to identify and apprehend the culprit.
The Ministry also appealed to citizens to respect the railway system and understand that “every stone thrown at a train is a stone thrown at the nation’s safety and progress.”
The Eastern Railway Media Cell reiterated its commitment to maintaining passenger safety and called on everyone to support efforts to protect India’s railways — a vital backbone of the country’s growth and connectivity.
