Mumbai :- Shiv Sena (UBT) Member of Parliament Priyanka Chaturvedi has voiced concern over the rising levels of obscenity and inappropriate material on OTT (Over-The-Top) streaming platforms. Emphasizing the importance of safeguarding creative freedom, she stressed the urgent need for more effective regulatory mechanisms to prevent its misuse for vulgar content.
In a related issue, Chaturvedi questioned the ongoing house arrest of the team behind a controversial OTT show, describing it as a potential violation of free speech. She maintained that while regulation is important, imposing bans or arrests without due process threatens the democratic principle of expression.
Her comments come at a time when the country is witnessing intense debate over digital censorship, artistic liberty, and content governance. While some voices demand tighter controls, others warn against moral policing and advocate for responsible freedom in storytelling.
Chaturvedi’s remarks have reignited the conversation on finding a middle ground between creative rights and regulatory oversight in India’s booming OTT industry.
