Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora achieved a significant diplomatic breakthrough during his official visit to Guyana, where he was personally hosted for dinner by the country’s President, Dr. Irfaan Ali. The high-level meeting, held on May 27, was described by Deora as an “honour and a meaningful step” in strengthening India-Guyana ties and building global momentum behind Operation Sindoor.
Operation Sindoor, a strategic initiative spearheaded by India, aims to build a robust global coalition around humanitarian, economic, and security efforts, particularly in the Indian Ocean Region and among diaspora-rich nations. Although specific details of the operation remain confidential due to its strategic nature, it is believed to involve diplomatic, developmental, and possibly maritime cooperation elements.
President Ali, whose leadership has elevated Guyana’s profile on the global stage through progressive international engagement, expressed support for India’s initiative, aligning with shared values of South-South cooperation, democratic partnership, and mutual growth.
Milind Deora, known for his active diplomacy and long-standing experience in both domestic and international politics, emphasized the importance of such alliances in a changing geopolitical landscape. “Our diaspora connects us, but it’s our shared democratic spirit that binds us,” he said after the meeting.
The interaction is seen as part of a larger diplomatic push by India to engage with key nations in Latin America and the Caribbean, especially those with significant Indian-origin populations. It also signals Shiv Sena’s evolving role in foreign policy conversations, positioning itself beyond regional politics and into the sphere of global diplomacy.
The visit concluded with renewed commitments to strengthen bilateral relations, expand trade, and collaborate in sectors like education, technology, and culture. Deora’s efforts have been widely acknowledged as a soft power success, potentially opening more doors for India’s strategic initiatives abroad.
