Mumbai, November 3:
In a major political setback for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has announced a two-month break from public life due to deteriorating health.
The development comes at a critical juncture, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections just months away. Raut, known as one of the most aggressive and vocal faces of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, made the announcement through a heartfelt note shared on social media.
“You all have always believed in me and loved me, but now suddenly there has been a serious deterioration in my health. Treatment is underway, I will come out of this soon,” Raut wrote in his message titled “A humble request to all friends, family and workers.”
He revealed that doctors have advised him complete rest and to avoid public interactions for the next two months. The MP was recently admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mulund after feeling unwell, and despite ongoing treatment, his condition reportedly worsened.
Raut assured his supporters that he would recover soon and return to active political life by the new year. “As per medical advice, I have been restricted from going out and mingling with crowds. I am sure I will recover well and come to meet you in the new year. May your love and blessings remain,” he added, signing off with “Jai Maharashtra!”
Raut’s absence is expected to have a significant impact on the Thackeray camp’s election campaign, as he has been a key strategist and the party’s principal spokesperson. His daily press interactions and strong criticisms of the ruling alliance have been central to the MVA’s communication strategy.
With the crucial BMC polls approaching, the Shiv Sena (UBT) will now need to rework its campaign dynamics and messaging in the absence of one of its most prominent voices.
