Samajwadi Party to Fight BMC Elections Solo, Will Contest 150 Seats: Abu Azmi

Mumbai : The Samajwadi Party (SP) has announced that it will contest the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections independently, stepping away from the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance. Party leader Abu Asim Azmi confirmed that SP will field candidates in 150 of the 227 wards across Mumbai.

Azmi strongly criticized the Congress party, accusing it of sidelining SP in alliance discussions and failing to hold proper coordination meetings. He stated that past alliances had brought only “betrayal,” prompting the SP to rely on its own organizational strength for the upcoming polls.

Highlighting key civic issues, Azmi said that several slum pockets in Mumbai still lack basic infrastructure and need urgent attention. He also urged the BMC to release the ward-reservation list promptly so that parties can prepare their candidates accordingly.

Azmi further declared that the SP will not form alliances with either Uddhav Thackeray’s Sena or Raj Thackeray’s MNS, criticizing Raj for his past remarks about North Indians.
