The Lucknow Regional Transport Office (RTO) has served a notice to Indian cricketer Akash Deep, directing him not to drive his newly purchased SUV until it is fitted with the mandatory High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) and Third Registration Mark (TRM).
According to official records, the SUV was sold on August 7, insured on August 8, and allotted a special registration number the next day. However, the HSRP and TRM have not yet been installed, and the details have not been updated on the Vahan portal—violating Sections 39 and 41(6) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, along with Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The notice warns that driving the vehicle in this condition is an offence under Section 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act and could lead to seizure under Section 207. A show-cause notice has also been issued to the Chinhat-based dealership for delivering the SUV without completing mandatory registration procedures. The RTO has reminded dealers that no vehicle, whether with temporary or permanent registration, should be handed over without completing all formalities.
