Mumbai : The Railway Protection Force (RPF) registered more than 8,100 offences on Mumbai’s Central Railway in October, underscoring persistent challenges in ensuring safety and compliance on the city’s busiest suburban network. Major violations included ticketless travel and unauthorized entry into ladies’ coaches, resulting in penalties amounting to ₹38.03 lakh.
To curb such incidents, RPF teams intensified surveillance and carried out targeted inspections during peak hours. Officers also detained individuals involved in illicit substance possession and theft of passenger belongings.
Despite designated women’s coaches, unauthorized access remains a significant concern on high-density routes such as CSMT–Kalyan and Dadar–Thane. The Central Railway reiterated its commitment to providing safe, inclusive travel and emphasized that strong enforcement combined with community awareness is essential to maintaining commuter trust and supporting sustainable urban mobility.
