Mumbai/Pune — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Nashik, and Pune, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the next few hours.
Several other districts, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Satara, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, remain under orange alert.
In Raigad, authorities have stepped up emergency measures, advising residents of coastal villages to shift to safer shelters if needed. Officials are closely monitoring tides and river levels, while fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea.
Near Pune, water discharge from the Khadakwasla dam has been increased to regulate inflows, while the NDRF has put its units in Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur on high alert for rescue and relief operations.
Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, follow local advisories, and relocate if living in dilapidated or flood-prone structures.
