Mumbai : A protest erupted at the Wadala Depot on Saturday as citizens and transport workers gathered to demand the immediate rollback of the recent fare hike imposed by BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport). The demonstrators also voiced strong opposition to the ongoing privatisation of BEST bus services, calling it an attack on affordable public transportation.
Protesters held placards and shouted slogans such as “Fare Hike Hatao” (Remove the Fare Hike) and “Privatisation Band Karo” (Stop Privatisation), urging authorities to prioritize the needs of common commuters over private interests.
The protest is part of a growing movement across Mumbai against fare increases and the outsourcing of public bus operations to private contractors. Activists warned that such policies could lead to job losses for workers and higher costs for daily passengers.
