Power shut down hits Delhi for drill

News: On May 7, 2025, Delhi experienced a power shutdown as part of a nationwide civil defence mock drill called “Operation Abhyaas,” which aimed to test emergency preparedness. The drill involved simulated blackouts, evacuations, and emergency responses. However, a fire at a substation in Uttar Pradesh caused an actual power outage, leading to confusion among residents. Delhi’s Power Minister clarified that the outages were part of routine maintenance, and warned against spreading false claims. The mock drill was part of India’s efforts to improve civil defence capabilities.
