Mumbai: The Maratha reservation agitation at Azad Maidan has taken a new turn as police issued a notice to the core committee of activist Manoj Jarange Patil, citing violations of court and police-imposed conditions. The notice clearly directs the protestors to vacate the ground at the earliest.

According to officials, the court had granted conditional permission for the protest, including restrictions on processions, crowd management, noise levels, and traffic arrangements. However, authorities claim these rules were flouted in recent days, prompting action based on the court’s order.

The notice also points out that several statements made by Jarange Patil to the media were controversial and could impact law and order. Police warned that if the protestors failed to vacate Azad Maidan, stricter action would follow.

Sources said that from the fourth day onwards, massive crowds gathered at Azad Maidan and nearby areas, leading to traffic jams and heightened security concerns. Several routes to CSMT and the BMC headquarters have already been closed.

While Jarange Patil has not officially responded to the notice yet, his supporters allege it is an attempt to suppress the movement. Police, however, maintain that ensuring law and order remains their top priority.

The Maratha reservation protest continues to stir political and social debate across Maharashtra, and Jarange Patil’s next move on the notice is expected to significantly shape the course of the agitation.
