Pakistan Denies Viral Loan Appeal Post, Says Economic Affairs Account Was Hacked

Share:

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has labeled as “fake” a widely circulated social media post in which the government purportedly appealed for additional international loans, citing severe losses following India’s ongoing Operation Sindoor.

The controversial post appeared on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Division. It urged global partners to provide financial assistance and called for efforts to de-escalate tensions, referencing plummeting stock markets and economic instability caused by India’s strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

However, in a clarification post on X, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fact Checker division shared a screenshot of the original message and denied its authenticity. “The account was hacked,” the ministry claimed, calling the loan appeal fabricated.

The post has since been deleted, and Pakistani officials have yet to provide further technical details about the alleged breach.
