Mumbai : Commuters in Mumbai will soon have to pay more for app-based taxi rides as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) has introduced new fare regulations for Ola, Uber, and Rapido. The revised rates align these services with black-and-yellow taxis.
Under the new structure:
Non-AC rides will cost around ₹20.66 per kilometre, while AC rides will be charged at about ₹22.72 per kilometre, up from the earlier ₹15-16/km.
During low-demand periods, passengers may get up to 25% discount on fares.
In peak hours, fares may rise to 1.5 times the base rate, taking the per-kilometre charge close to ₹34.
Drivers will receive 80% of the fare, while ride-hailing companies will keep 20%.
The decision, which will remain in force until permanent fare rules are drafted for app-based taxis, comes after long-standing demands from taxi unions for a hike.
