India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval visited Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the official government residence in Mumbai on Monday evening. The high-level meeting was part of an ongoing dialogue aimed at strengthening the coordination between national and state security mechanisms, especially in critical urban hubs like Mumbai.
According to government sources, the interaction was marked by a detailed exchange of views on a range of pressing security concerns, including counter-terrorism preparedness, cybersecurity threats, urban policing challenges, and emergency response mechanisms in dense metropolitan regions.
Chief Minister Fadnavis expressed his deep appreciation for Doval’s visit, calling it “an important step in reinforcing collaborative security efforts.” He also acknowledged Doval’s pivotal role in shaping India’s modern strategic and internal security architecture.
“Shri Ajit Doval’s understanding of complex security issues and his long-standing experience have always been valuable to India’s national interests. It’s an honour to have him here as we discuss the evolving landscape of threats and the need for robust urban safety infrastructure,” Fadnavis said.
Though no formal press briefing followed the meeting, officials familiar with the development confirmed that Mumbai’s vulnerability as a high-density financial capital with a history of terror threats formed a major part of the conversation. Discussions reportedly also touched upon improving surveillance systems, intelligence coordination between central and state units, and boosting public infrastructure resilience in the face of natural and man-made emergencies.
NSA Doval’s visit is seen as a signal of the Centre’s continued focus on Maharashtra’s security ecosystem, especially as civic infrastructure and high-profile events in Mumbai require comprehensive safety strategies.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to enhance inter-agency coordination and explore new avenues for cooperation between state law enforcement bodies and national security institutions.
This visit comes at a time when the state is preparing for major public events and civic elections, placing added importance on preemptive security planning and operational readiness.
