Mumbai : Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation cracks down on environmental violations, warns businesses against damaging trees with decorative lights . In a stern move to protect urban greenery, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has penalized Pawan Restaurant and Bar in Belapur’s Sector 3 with a ₹10,000 fine for adorning trees with electric lights—a practice that harms vegetation and violates civic norms.
The Belapur Zonal Flying Squad, led by Assistant Commissioner Dr. Amol Palve and under the oversight of Deputy Commissioner Kishanrao Palande (Garden Department, Zone 1), enforced the penalty as per the NMMC Tree Authority’s Resolution No. 7461 (dated January 27). The regulation strictly bans activities like nailing objects onto trees or wrapping them with electrical fixtures, with offenders facing a ₹10,000 fine per affected tree.
Authorities emphasized that such decorations not only damage trees but also disrupt local ecosystems. The NMMC has warned businesses and residents against similar violations, announcing intensified surveillance across all zones to deter future infractions.
In a parallel crackdown, the Anti-Plastic Squad of Zone II, headed by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kailas Gaikwad, confiscated 100 grams of banned plastic from Asha Pura Kirana Stores in Airoli’s Sector 8, imposing a ₹5,000 fine. The civic body affirmed that such enforcement drives will persist to uphold environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices citywide.
