A 28-year-old woman has been arrested in Navi Mumbai for allegedly kidnapping her husband with the intent to kill him. Her 24-year-old paramour, an autorickshaw driver, has also been taken into custody in connection with the crime, police said, according to a PTI report.

The woman reportedly told investigators that she was fed up with her husband’s excessive drinking and abusive behavior, which prompted her to conspire with her lover.

The couple lived in Ambedkar Nagar slums in the Rabale MIDC area of Navi Mumbai. Initially, the husband was reported missing, but a deeper investigation revealed disturbing details, leading police to register a criminal case.

According to officials, on May 16, the woman’s paramour arrived at their residence on the pretext of returning some keys. He struck up a conversation with the husband and later made him consume alcohol. The inebriated man was then taken in an autorickshaw to Balkum in Thane, where he was abandoned and left to die. Fortunately, the victim survived the ordeal.

An FIR was filed on Wednesday, and both the woman and her paramour were arrested. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 140(1) for kidnapping and Section 3(5) for common intention.
