Navi Mumbai: Journalists from print, electronic, and digital platforms staged a strong protest at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Vashi on Wednesday, condemning the increasing incidents of misconduct and physical assaults on media professionals in Mumbai, Pune, and across Maharashtra.
Photojournalists, video journalists, and editors participated in the demonstration, raising slogans such as “Stop attacks on journalists” and “Shame on officials with anti-media mindset.”
Protestors warned that if the government fails to enact strict laws to ensure the safety of journalists, they will intensify the movement through larger state-wide agitations.
The protest, led by local journalist associations, drew participation from several media professionals. Addressing the gathering, senior journalists stressed that “the press is the fourth pillar of democracy, and attacks on journalists are direct attacks on freedom of expression.”
They demanded immediate government action to address the recent incidents of violence against journalists in Mumbai and Pune. The demonstration also showcased unity within the journalist fraternity and sent a strong message that the fight for press freedom and safety will continue across Maharashtra.
