Mumbaikars Raise Concerns Over Traffic Constables “Hiding” to Catch Violators

Mumbai :- Growing discontent is brewing among Mumbaikars over what they describe as an increasingly unfair practice by traffic constables—allegedly hiding behind corners and suddenly emerging to penalize motorists and bikers for minor violations.

Many residents feel the approach resembles a “trap” rather than a genuine effort to promote road safety. A biker, speaking anonymously, claimed that officers “purposely hide, and when motorists or bikers make a small mistake, they immediately catch them,” adding that such tactics create fear instead of awareness.

Citizens argue that traffic police should remain visible at key junctions to encourage proactive adherence to rules. “If officers stand openly, nobody will break traffic rules,” said one commuter.

With rising complaints, locals are urging Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to step in and direct the Mumbai Joint Traffic Police Commissioner to enforce better discipline among traffic personnel. They believe visibility and transparency will help restore trust and ensure that road safety remains the top priority.

As grievances mount, Mumbaikars hope swift action will be taken to address the issue and improve coordination between the public and traffic authorities.
