Mumbai, June 22, 2025 :- A 28-year-old woman pilot was molested during a late-night app-based cab ride in Mumbai after the driver deviated from the route and picked up two unknown men, who then sexually harassed her.

The incident occurred between 11:00 and 11:50 PM on Thursday, as the victim was returning home from Fort. According to the FIR, the driver suddenly changed course, parked on the opposite side of the road, and allowed two men to enter the cab—one seated next to the driver and the other beside the woman in the rear.

In her statement, the victim reported that one of the men twisted her arm and touched her inappropriately, while the other threatened her when she screamed. The men reportedly fled the scene near a police checkpoint. The driver, without offering any explanation, dropped her home. Still in shock, she paid the ₹530 fare before filing a complaint the next day with her husband, a defence personnel, by her side.

The FIR includes charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, and common intent. The driver has been detained, and a search is underway for the two absconding accused.

The case has sparked widespread concern about the safety of women in app-based cab services in Mumbai, prompting renewed calls for stricter regulation, driver background checks, and emergency response mechanisms within ride-hailing platforms.
