Mumbai University in Turmoil Over NEP Protests; Teachers Detained

Share:
Mumbai : Mumbai University witnessed chaos as teachers and staff protested against the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, leading to several educators being detained by the police.
The agitation, organized by the Mumbai University Teachers’ Association (MUTA), saw demonstrators raising concerns over the policy’s structure, workload increases, and lack of clarity in its execution. Protesters claimed that the NEP would adversely affect both educators and students without proper infrastructure and planning.
Tensions escalated when police intervened to disperse the crowd, detaining multiple teachers. University officials stated that discussions were ongoing to address grievances, but protesters demanded immediate action.
The NEP, aimed at reforming India’s education system, has faced resistance from teachers nationwide who argue that its rollout has been hasty and poorly implemented. Authorities have assured further dialogue, but the standoff continues.
