Mumbai is reeling under sticky, oppressive heat as the city waits for the southwest monsoon to properly arrive. After brief showers on May 26 and 27 offered a short-lived respite, rainfall has vanished, leaving behind soaring temperatures and suffocating humidity.
On May 30, the city recorded no measurable rain, and minimum temperatures continued to climb. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon’s progress has stalled over key regions, including Mumbai, Ahilyanagar in Maharashtra, and Puri in Odisha. A persistent upper air cyclonic circulation over west Rajasthan is reportedly slowing the system’s movement.
This stalling means nearby regions like Gujarat may also see delays in monsoon onset. For Mumbai, the immediate forecast remains bleak—only patchy light rain or brief drizzles are expected over the weekend, offering little relief.
Humidity levels remain extremely high, intensifying the discomfort for Mumbaikars. Health officials have advised people to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
As the city waits for the monsoon to resume its course, the weather continues to test both patience and endurance, with no major change in sight just yet
