Mumbai: In a major technological move, the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has announced the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to monitor slum areas across Mumbai and prevent the rise of new encroachments. The initiative aims to support the city’s long-term vision of becoming slum-free.
Under the new system, AI-powered tools will conduct photographic and video surveys of existing slums every six months. These surveys will help identify any fresh encroachments, enabling authorities to take swift action for their removal.
A successful pilot project in Malwani has prompted the SRA to roll out the initiative citywide. A special monitoring cell will be established to oversee AI implementation and ensure rapid response to unauthorized developments.
According to SRA officials, this step is crucial for safeguarding the progress of ongoing slum rehabilitation projects and preventing setbacks caused by emerging slums.
