Mumbai:-
The MHB Police have busted a major inter-state gang that ran an elaborate online dating scam, arresting 21 individuals involved in duping victims using fake dating profiles and inflated hotel bills.
According to police, the gang created fake female profiles on popular dating apps to lure unsuspecting men. Once a meeting was set up, the victims were directed to specific hotels that were part of the racket. There, they were charged excessively for rooms, food, and other services—amounts far beyond normal rates.
The scam was well-coordinated, with several hotels and individuals working together to extort money from victims under the pretense of genuine dates. Authorities believe hundreds may have fallen prey to this con, with many hesitant to come forward due to the sensitive nature of the fraud.
Police have booked all 21 accused under various sections related to cheating and conspiracy. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to trace financial transactions and identify more victims and accomplices involved in the network.
