Mumbai : Senior Congress leaders Varsha Gaikwad and Aslam Shaikh were detained by Mumbai Police on Sunday during a protest against the alleged privatisation of a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) school in Malad.
The leaders, along with several party workers, staged a demonstration accusing the civic body of handing over the public school to private management. They claimed such a move would threaten jobs, reduce transparency in teacher recruitment, and compromise the right to free education for underprivileged children.
Police intervened as the protest intensified, detaining the Congress leaders and dispersing the crowd. The party has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
