In a horrifying incident that has once again spotlighted glaring security lapses in Mumbai’s suburban rail system, a heavily intoxicated man was caught attempting to undress inside a ladies’ coach on a local train during peak hours — with zero police presence to intervene.

The incident occurred around 8 AM on June 14 aboard a train traveling from Chunabhatti to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). According to multiple eyewitnesses, including a video shared by commuter Manasi (@Manasisplaining) on X (formerly Twitter), the man entered the women’s compartment visibly drunk, stared at female passengers, and tried to pull down his pants.

“He was leering at us while fumbling with his pants,” said one commuter. “When we asked him to leave, he began pacing like a maniac and almost tried jumping off the moving train.”

The man eventually wandered into another compartment as the train neared GTB Nagar station. But what shocked passengers most was the complete absence of security response. Despite repeated calls to railway helplines, no Railway Police Force (RPF) or GRP personnel showed up at either Chunabhatti or GTB Nagar stations.

“This isn’t new,” Manasi posted. “Last time, another man entered the coach, spat while doing drugs — no police, no help. Today again — no one showed up.”

The woman’s video quickly gained traction online, triggering public outrage and demanding answers from railway authorities and the Maharashtra government. Yet, as of publication, no official statement has been issued by Central Railway, RPF, or Mumbai Police.

With thousands of women depending on local trains every day, the repeated security failures are now drawing serious questions: How many more violations before real safety measures are enforced?

If railway helplines don’t respond and security is absent in broad daylight — what hope is left for women’s safety in Mumbai’s locals?
