Mumbai: In a major breakthrough in the kidnapping case of notorious drug trafficker Sajid Electricwala, the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested two key accused — Deepak Nandkishor Sharma (32) from Vadodara and Nitin Rokde from Panvel.
The arrests were made by Crime Branch Unit 5, and both accused have been remanded to police custody till July 29. Investigations revealed that Sharma had links with key conspirator Sarwar Khan, whom he met in Thane jail. He was tasked with hiding a loaded pistol used to threaten Electricwala during the abduction.
The weapon was recovered from Sharma in Gujarat, along with ammunition, based on leads from interrogations. Police also confirmed that Sharma and Rokde stayed at a farmhouse in Neral where Electricwala was held captive.
The probe uncovered a larger trail involving Electricwala’s movement across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, ending in Lucknow. The kidnapping was allegedly orchestrated by Khan to recover ₹50 lakh he had given Electricwala to set up a drug unit.
So far, police have linked multiple seasoned criminals to the case, some with MCOCA and Arms Act charges, and are investigating possible financial ties to the Chhota Shakeel syndicate.
Efforts are ongoing to nab other absconding suspects and unravel the full extent of the extortion racket.
